What are you listening to today?

An amazing collection of talent in STEREO!

I so miss stereo......real stereo that can be an amazing part of the music experience.

Stephen Stills et al at Monterey Pop was quite the show. He and Young produced some amazing tunes through the years, most of which I can still sing along to fairly accurately. What talent.

I cut my teeth on quadraphonic with the first Sansui amp to offer it back in the day. Heavenly sound.

^^^^A Classic!^^^^

You needed a really cool radio station to hear that back in the day. Around here the station that set the tone for most of the burgeoning FM radio stations was WBCN.

I think I first heard it on an AOR station in Atlanta. I'd been a BCN, AAF and WVBF listener in Boston, so 96Rock was my station down in ATL. They were a pretty mainstream station. And holy moly did I get caught up on "southern rock" after living in Boston for the previous 4 years and San Diego before that. :ha

The thing is that at the time, he'd released "Camel", I think and it was kinda panned by Rolling Stone and the critics. I don't think his subsequent studio album did well, either. And while the critics didn't think much of Framptom Comes Alive, it sold a bazillion copies. I had it on vinyl, but friends also had it on 8track and cassette. It was just everywhere, all the time, and Frampton was a big time rock star.

At the time, I was more interested in an Atlanta band called Mother's Finest. Oh man.

Rare Essence a "go go" band is up for me this morning.

If you like jam bands, but wished they'd focus on making your ass move a little, these guys might be for you. They've been around since the 80s and just keep rollin' it on.

Get ready to start bobbing your head like a swan. These guys have that deep funk groove going and will suck you right in. Gimme a horn section and I'm gonna listen.

Great Cover!

Some little while back someone mentioned the most excellent streaming jazz station KEWU. I have very much enjoyed listening to that station whilst in the garage. Alas, this station (after being on the air for more than 50 years) is ceasing its jazz broadcast at the end of 2023. I am thus searching for a (hopefully) commercial free streaming jazz station. I would welcome recommendations. The so-called "classic" jazz is especially desired. [I do have a pandora subscription and a good number of on-line music CDs (as mp3 music in my server), but sometimes a different curated jazz playlist is nice.]

As a follow-up - I have found Kjazz 88.1 (kkjz.org) out of California State University - Long Beach; so far this streaming station is a very nice replacement for KEWU.

Have you considered Sirius/XM?

I have Sirius/XM in our BMW cars and my R1200RTw, including whatever the "full access" is now called. Thus, I can stream it and sometimes listen to the "Real Jazz", "Watercolors (smooth Jazz)", "Siriously Sinatra", and a few other channels. I usually save those for the car or when I am on the bike. It is an option when I am in the garage.

I have aged outside the target demographic of advertisers and I really, really can not abide commercials. Having something that I can listen to for a few hours at a stretch without getting my greasy paws on the tablet screen is a bonus. After I get to the second beer I am done working on the bike and might sit and cogitate for a spell.

I sometimes look at a website called advrider (often just referred to as ADV); some of y'all may have heard of it. I saw a thread with some links to a young bluegrass guitar player called Billy Strings (he is pretty good!)\.) I watched a number of his youtube video performances, often with other performers; one of these is Sierra Hull. I came upon the video linked below. I felt as though I was drawn into a past-travelling time machine where it would be expected to have a number of 50's vintage pickup trucks in the parking lot. And maybe some Harley Knucklehead and Panhead bikes, perhaps a few Triumphs as well, certainly nothing newer than a /2 BMW. I liked this music video a lot!

^^^ Nice!! I don't think I've seen a mandolin-like instrument like the one on the left before.
