What are you listening to today?

Straight from choir practice to the studio. That was a wonderful rendition of a Grateful Dead song.

RIP Garth Hudson-

Garth Hudson, last surviving member of The Band, dies at 87

From ABC News-
Garth Hudson, the keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist who was the last surviving member of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members The Band, has died, his manager confirmed to ABC News. He was 87.

The Band.....Quite a history.

The talent in this band was beyond measuring. Each had a distinct yet perfect vocal for the material they wrote and performed. All played more than one instrument too. There was truly a magic going on when this band played. Maybe it was appropriate that they were just called The Band. No other tag would have been right. RIP Richard Manuel, RIP Rick Danko & today RIP our beloved American Levon Helm. Together, all of you were musical magicians. Great melodic spells you conjured for us.

Wow, 101 pages of history on this thread. Someone's probably brought this up in the past five years or so, but lately, I've take a liking to British-Celtic-Irish-Scottish, and Colonial American "Sea Shanties". Probably due somewhat to my (US) Navy background, my ...uh.. somewhat advanced age, and memories that keep cycling backwards. A youtuber who goes by the label "Captain Halyard" has some interesting playlists, though there are others.
Example: Vol. 21 - Compilation of Sea Shanties & Traditional Irish Folk - (ft. Colm McGuinness)

There's just some reason that these go round and round my head, i.e. I must identify with them in some way. Turn on "CC", closed captions to read an approximation of the words - they're chauvinistic tough and cheek good fun. Enjoy, friends!

Edit/update: Lol, apparently, no one else shares my taste in music. However, at least listen to this little jingle and substitute "same model car" with "same model bike" or motorcycle, and then consider the perspective. I'll bet nearly ALL of us are doing this. When you tool down the road in your RT, for example, and see another Sport Touring bike coming at ya, how many of you strain your eyes to figure out what the other guy is riding. When it's JUST like your bike (or at least a Beemer), that "There it is, lad!" celebration moment occurs, along with maybe a tip of the hat (or index finger) giving the other rider his due. Anyhow, it's a total tongue and cheek kind of song, that never fails to make me thing of Beemer riders (or Harley's, for the cruisers dudes among us). Enjoy, starting about 15:10 on this video.

Sea Shanties?

A couple of decades back I saw a concert featuring the Chieftains and Great Big Sea. This was outdoors in Dublin (Ohio) at the Columbus Zoo. It was quite a good concert and I ended up obtaining a number of CDs by Great Big Sea; I already had a number of them by the Chieftains.

I know there's a thread around here somewhere (created by Bubba), but I wanted to start a fresh one.

Toss up a couple of album, CD or MP3 covers and show us what's on your iPod, desktop, walkman, discman, hi-fi, turntable, standard or satellite radio.
