tranny oil type?

He has posted his opinion re gear oil on the IBMWR Tech List on several occasions. When he rebuilds transmission or final drives Castrol Hypoy C is what he recommends his customers use.

So to get his recommendation directly I suppose the thing to do is ship him a trashed transmission. :)

For what it might be worth, I agree with him.

That's enough for me,good bye Mobil

Yep, what Paul Glaves said.

Here is a sample I saved from one of Cutter's emails:
"I fix loads of failed rear drives. There seem to be more with synthetic than dino lube in them. I recommend good old dino gear lube, [Castrol] Hypoy C 80W90 gear lube. I've never seen a reason to change that recommendation, but I do not have to the same fat profit margins on synthetic lubes that BMW dealers have."

He's said a lot of other interesting things, but that's the gist of it on gear oil.

Bel-Ray Hypoid 90 Gear Saver in the transmission and the final drive.

The final drive oil gets spiked at 5% with Dow Corning M Gear Guard. Zilch on the drain plug.
