Spun rod bearing R65

dustoff

New member
I brought home a 1984 R65 motor in 5 boxes. After examining the parts I found one big end rod bearing has failed. The oil pump looks good even though the oil pan has copper colored bearing pieces in the oil. Before rebuilding, I would like to know why the rod bearing failed so I can fix the problem the caused the failure. Any suggestions?

Connecting rod bearing failure is rare except on very high mileage engines but it can happen for a few reasons. Foremost would be poor lubrication, either due to a failure to properly change oil or an improperly fitted oil filter causing a loss of oil pressure. Running the bike out of sufficient oil will do it too. Rarely, a blocked oil passage might occur.

I would carefully examine the crankshaft journals for all the bearings.
