1990 BMW R100GS looking for help in New England

Hi new member here. I have a new to me 1990 R100GSPD 86k miles. I purchased it off of a lifetime MOA member from Canada. I live in NH. I was going to replace the pushrod tube seals, and neutral switch as they are both weeping. I have had other airheads so I’m comfortable doing the basics, carb rebuilds etc. Anyway I dropped the oil and found a metal diesel pin stuck to the magnetic oil plug that I am confident after researching and measuring is the main bearing carrier dowel pin. My understanding is this is not uncommon. I think I am going to need help re installing dowel pin or tapping it out and installing screw as others have done. I think the latter sounds like a better fix. Im hoping the front main bearing has not spun in the carrier as bike was getting plenty of oil to the rockers. I ask you veterans is this something that could be tackled at a tech day? Is there a shop in New England that you all recommend? I am willing and would love to do as much of the work as possible but am nervous about tearing that deep in to the motor. I have heated work space here or bike is still a roller and I can transport. I reached out to a highly recommended shop in VT but the owner is very busy and wouldn’t be able to get to it for quite some time and again part of buying this bike was to own a bike I could work on. I already own a daily my R1200GSA
Thank you very much in advance

Thanks to the incredible MOA community I got the help I needed. If the moderator would like to delete this post that would be great I’m not sure I know how to

No need to delete (have) the thread.
If you want, let us know how you made out. It’s always good to hear a nice story about a good outcome.
