Skene Photon Blaster mounting location - Forks or Engine guards?

Hi all,

I have a set of Ztechnik engine guards and Skene Photon Blasters coming to mount on my '16 RT. My original thought was to mount the Skene's on the forks but it looks like it would be very easy to mount them on the engine guards, providing a wider separation between the lights. Any one tried this? Opinions? :scratch

Many of our customers have used bar clamps to mount the LED modules to engine guards. We recommend the T2-S bracket to mount the LED module to the bar clamp. You will need to buy 2 6mm nuts, available at any hardware store.

A search on Google for "bar clamps" will turn up many possibilities. Just match the bar diameter of your engine guard.

Since the Ztechniks have a pre-drilled mount for Aux light it would seem that the bar clamps may not be needed.

I like the idea of using the engine guards over the forks for two reasons above and beyond the ease of installation.

First, it will widen out the light pattern that an oncoming driver is exposed to, making it more likely that they'll notice it.

Second, if you're stopped to turn and have your forks turned (wheels should always be straight until you actually turn but few follow that bit of safety advice), the lights on your forks at facing toward the turn, not toward the oncoming traffic, while the lights on the crash bars are oriented with the bike itself.

Just my two cents on being as conspicuous as possible (from the guy who has a matt black helmet and mostly black riding gear). ;-)

You imply that there may be other colors available......
For me there is, but ever so slightly.

I've also got a silver HJC, anthracite Nolan, and a B&W Arai Vector II Phil Read, so there is a slight degree of variation to my matte black C3, and my BMW Trailguard jacket is black and silver vs my all black Rev'It gear. So I do deviate slightly. ;-)

I've mounted my Ztechnik bars and find that the aux light mounting bracket has a couple of issues:

1 - The mounting tab is not completely perpendicular to the ground, it appear to be tilted upward by about 30 degrees ( I called Ztechnik and they don't know what the exact angle is when mounted, I suggested they modify the tab to be vertical). This issue would require a customized mount in order to get the LEDs mounted at the correct angle.
2 - The mounting tabs are within an inch of the cylinder head. I'm concerned that the LED lights might be subject to excessive heat, even though the bike is water cooled. Comments?

I may just stick with the fork mounts but I still think the wider separation afforded by the bar mounting would have advantages so bar clamps my be the best bet.

Seems very strange that they wouldn't know that. I'm thinking you must have spoken with someone in Customer Support nor the Tech Dept., and they didn't have the presence of mind or initiative to hand it over to or better yet, for their own edification, have a tech join in the conversation. Certainly the brackets are built to a spec and that spec includes the angle, so Ztechnik woud either know that angle or have access to it.

That's my thinking as well Ski.

I figured out a way to use a cheap, stainless steel corner bracket to mount my Skenes to the tab on the engine guard. I just flattened out the "L" until it was bent only about 30 degrees instead of 90. I mounted the bracket, adjusted the angle a bit and mounted the lights. I still have to connect all the wiring but here's how it looks so far.
