Route 66 Motels

We may do our second Route 66 trip this summer. The last one was pre-Covid so I am sure some things have changed. Has anyone stayed at the Wagon Wheel in Cuba, MO lately? Heard they changed hands. How about Boots Motel in Carthage, MO? They were both great places on our last trip but it has been awhile. Also the Campbell Hotel in Tulsa. Anyone been there lately? Thanks.

We've stayed there 6 or 7 times. The last times were 2021 and 2022. This was the Wagon Wheel in Cuba.
Those last 2 times the owner mentioned her husband was having health problems.

Boots Court was excellent in June 2024. The single bed rooms each have covered parking. We stayed in a double, room 9. I'm sure you have seen the Jasper Courthouse just a few blocks away. We liked the Carthage Deli as well. Carthage MO is a neat town to stay in.

I make it a policy to do my best not to see any courthouses while on roadtrips.

I still recall many years ago, a whole bunch of us got to see a rundown 100+ year old podunk courthouse for a number of hours when 2 or 3 of our group got pulled over for out of state (actually, out of country) for speeding, and we had to follow the barnie fife about 50 miles out of our way for them to be processed. There wasn't anything else redeeming to see there. At least most of us only got to "admire" the outside of the courthouse/jail. The inside was apparently every bit as bad as we might have imagined. There was no more heavy feet among our group that day until we were all well out of that State.

Thanks. We stayed there many times on partial or full Route 66 trips; like the barbecue joint across the parking lot. On last year's Route 66 Red Carpet Ride, one of the people wee encountered said they heard the owner had died ....
