I had a ride in one of these out of NAS Whiting Field (Milton, FL) in 1968. The Navy nomenclature was "SNB-1" back then...

Years ago I participated in a R.A.T. Tour...

Rat stood for Road Anomaly Tour or any thing abnormal along the road.

I had a lot of fun with it, as they had tons if images/destinations to search out such things........

Unfortunately the fellow that was the inspiration passed away and the website went away.

Anyone else remember this? Know more about it? I have a bunch of pictures somewhere, I'll have to dig the out.

i do remember the RAT rides. my son and i accumulated 100 points each on one cross country trip in 1999 with a 35mm camera. i still have the pictures. don't remember if i ever submitted to the RAT site. alb

Riding down a nice gravel road today along the Knife River in SW ND, I stumbled across a rancher's version of a road side rest area. I had to pull over and snap a photo, and once I realized how much it had warmed up I stayed a while. This was less than half a mile from his house, and the road is semi-private, but the site looked well used. Very cool! Paradise. Yes it was.

Well, yes. A century ago a man made a cardboard cutout of North America and found the center by balancing the cardboard on a pin. Later, Rugby let their trademarck "Center of the North American Continent" lapse so an enterprising bar owner in Robinson bought the trademark. Looking at Robinson on Google Earth that might have been a good thing because there apppears to be no other reason for being there. Finally another scientist with a computer ran some type of algorithm and identified a location near Center, ND of all places. So take your pick: Cardboard cutout, crafty bar owner, or computer algorithm.
