Replacing R90/6 Gaiters? Best way?

What's the quickest/easiest way to replace a set of front fork gaiters on a '76 R90/6? My old ones are dry-rotted and I have a replacement set ready to go.

Thanks, Brian

Remove front wheel and axle. Remove fender stays. Remove caliper. Drain fork fluid. Drop sliders. Change gaiters. Change fork seals. Reverse process. Check for stiction; ensure proper realignment.

Don't forget!

While you are in there, replace the bottoming bumper which sits in the bottom of the slider - yours is likely disintegrated and is creating a gooey, chunky mess.
Also replace the little copper washer which sits at the bottom of the damping rod.

11 Rib or 13 Rib Gaiters?

BMW sells both. If you don't have a set on the bike to compare, is there a measurement taken somewhere on the forks that correlates to which type gaiter to get?

Thanks,

Thom
