I couldn't figure out why you posted the fuel pump recall, it's old news from 2013. But this is a new recall on the recall. The bikes that were "fixed" by adding a support ring to uncracked or slightly cracked flanges are developing fuel leaks, and will now receive a complete new fuel pump.

Details at NHTSA: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2020/RCLRPT-20V471-1867.PDF Notifications to begin in October.

My dealer had problems with leaky bikes after adding the support ring, and stopped installing them in favor of a new pump on the first visit. Since I have the new pump already, I don't expect a notice.

A recall to fix a problem with a previous recall :)

Seems like not long ago a member had a post about his fuel pump leaking and this was after having the metal ring installed at the previous recall.

I will repeat what I have previously written: Screwing a tapered plumbing fitting into a piece of plastic is a design that is destined to fail except in the most cautious and careful circumstances. A straight thread with a crush washer or O ring would have been a whole lot smarter.

I'm with Paul. I would go farther and say that using a tapered thread fitting even into metal should be avoided on a vehicle except in the rarest of, to use his phrase, "most cautious and careful circumstances".

The transmission drain plug on my R1100S is tapered thread. Retail price for that plug is >$50.
