Rebuild ESA Shock?

Just working on my Buddy's 2018 GSA and notice that the front (ESA) shock is leaking badly. I know BMW says they aren't rebuildable. Price up here in Canada for a replacement is $2,500!!

I know I've seen previous postings here about some company(s) that do in fact rebuild them. Can someone point me in that direction?

If the servo drive in your ESA shock no longer functions properly, we are able to replacement the servo drive at $355.00 each with installation included. We are able to test all ESA servo drive functions and always test all of our customer’s ESA systems when the shocks are sent in for a service or transfer of the ESA components into a new Hyperpro ESA Hybrid or Wilbers WESA shock.

Try another BMW shop. Max's sent mine out for rebuild on my 2014 RT, $650. Yes, it did take about three weeks but I had it done while it was in the shop during the winter for service.

Ted is the One True Source for suspension around here. A buddy is going with Wilbers bodies and retaining the D-ESA gizmos for a pretty optimal set up

Just because it's leaking doesn't mean it has to be "rebuilt" - might just need a seal replacement (or possibly even just cleaning.)

I am familiar with cleaning seals on dirt bike forks with a playing card or piece of 35mm film (or a SealSaver (TM)) to stop leaks and that could, in fact, be the only issue here - but it seems like a fair amount of oil has leaked out and I can't see any way to replace it (or check the level) without removing it from the bike - and it'll be a b*tch to try to get the aforementioned playing card or piece of film up there to try to clean it on the bike. Have you ever done this?

I have replaced a seal and the oil in the esa shocks on my 2016 R1200R. The top cap with the wire on the left tube unscrews just like a normal tube, it's just that the internal cartridge is different.

The OP is asking about the front shock on a GSA, not a fork tube.

That was 3 years and 40K km ago.
They made it better and rebuildable.
