So, I was in behind the dash ( scary stuff from a previous owner) and found a connection with a black, orange, and green/w a blue stripe wires. Anyone know what these might be for? I have a service manual, but it doesn't have a schematic for the wires. Just shows how the wire bundles run. I have a tach I'm wanting to install. Aftermarket, but it came of an airhead. Also, does BMW have a separate manual just for the wiring?

That connector is for the heated grip switch.

Gn/bl - switched + supply from F7

Or - low heat

Bk - hi heat.

Did some digging

IF you are wired for a tach you will find a 3 pin connector with the following wire colours

Brown - negative
Green/Black - switched +
Black/Grey - signal

I got these from an R1150R schematic

What year is your R850R?

Thanks. It's a 1997 model. Just found that connector tye wrapped to another one. This is the first factory service manual I have ever seen that didn't have a wiring schematic included..

So, shouldn't one of those had power with the switch on? Or is that because it's not fused since it didn't come with them.

The switch assy plugs into that. The Gn/Bl will be hot with the ignition on provided the fuse is installed.

I can not find a black and grey wire in all that mess...

Then look for a solid black which connects to pin 35 of the motronic, that is the tach signal.

And as you get newer and newer bikes, it will just be the first. Schematics are in separate manuals ... and good luck when you get to CAN bus.
