R1250GS Adventure crash bar asymmetry - right side doesn't protect head

I just picked up my new 2022 R1250GS Adventure. I've got MachineArt Moto X head covers on order which may make this question mute - but here goes: the factory crash bars don't provide protection to the head on the right side - Is there a way to space the bars out just a little to alleviate this?

Lots of folks add a metal plate or a head cover to protect the cylinder head.
I've installed a Machine Art Moto head protector to my '18 GSA

I'm not sure that's a reasonable way to check the protection.

Even if there were a gap at the point your ruler hits the valve cover, a rock or rough ground could still miss the bars completely.

I think that if you had some help and carefully laid the bike over on that carpet you would have space between the cover and the floor, as the wheels, the upper bar and the bar behind the ruler would prevent the bike from laying along the line of your ruler.

Thanks for straightening the pic. I think you are correct - a longer straight edge from tire to bars does not contact the heads - only the upper portion of the crash bars.

optional bars

I went with the Altrider ones for that reason. You can see they have two large dia bars on the bottom side of the cylinder heads. That is the first thing to hit the engine on a crash/tip over.
