R1200ST gear ratio

Am looking for the ST gear and final drive ratio.
Can some owner get this from their owners manual.

Or let me know the approx RPMs at 60MPH in 5th and 6th gear.
Thanks

R1200St gear ratio

I assume that's final drive, I am looking at total gears ratios.

I have a 2004 R1150RS that I feel is too short geared in 1st to 5th, then a big overdrive to 6th.

I am eying a 2005 ST and am wondering if its gears have a better spread, at least a higher 4 & 5th. Bike is a $1000 miles away and am trying to get all info before making a choice. Current owner doesn't know and I can't find the info online.

I'd appreciate if you'd could send me a note (PPLepew@desmedt.net) about your rider's opinion on the ST. A rare breed.

Thanks

If it's anything like the RT, the tall 6th was changed with the '05 1200 and is currently only about 12% higher than 5th. The gearing my '06 RT is just about perfect (about 3,200 rpm @ 60 mph in 6th), except for a rather tall 1st gear (53 mph @ redline).

Here's a link to a review on it that includes the specs you're after:

http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/bmw/2005-bmw-r-1200-st-2906.html

Keep in mind, the author only rode the bike 150 miles.

There is a thread here where we shared opinions on the ST, and mine is in it; though I was in the minority on the negative side:

http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?t=37809

For what it's worth, my wife had an '04 RS and I thought it was a more comfortable bike. I will say that the ST was quicker and better balanced, but while the weight was reduced (carefully read what they optimistically claim; as wet "without optional equipment" is subject to very loose interpretation) and the CG lowered, the bike was physically fatter.

I'll send you that private email as well; for I have a suspicion the bike you're referring to might just have been mine once.

...a big overdrive to 6th...desmedt

The (approximately) 1,000 rpm split between 5th and 6th, is a problem.

I've ridden a number of 1200's, and they seem to have better gear spacing, but I would be interested in knowing what the rpm split is between 5th and 6th.

The 1200 RT & ST 6th gear is 12% higher than 5th. So if the 5~6 shift is done at redline, the rpm drop will be 1,000. And if the 5~6 shift is done at 4,000, the rpm drop will be about 500, etc.
