Opinions on Oil Brand for R1200RS

Last oil change with motul by the mechanic was 19.88 a quart. 18.22 if I bought it off amazon at retail. My mechanic doesn't gouge me on tires or oil changes.

Roughly $25 for a gallon of Shell Rotella T6 - and I wouldn't call it a "lower quality" oil, it's just marketed to a different use case which won't pay the premium prices for a quart of oil...

$17.59 a quart??? Not any time soon!

I get it, but sticker shock aside, it performs as promised. I switched to it when researching what oil was best for my old Kawasaki. What sold me was three factors…designed for aerospace tolerances, didn’t gel until -XX degrees F, and cleans sludge and varnish off engine parts when at operating temperatures. I switched to AMSOIL in my truck as I lived in Wyoming at the time. Never needed a block heater in the winter. When I got my Honda, I eventually had to open up the top to check valve clearance, and the inside of the motor looked like polished metal…not a speck of gum or varnish anywhere. Money well spent, in my opinion. Oil is about the most cost effective preventative maintenance you do to a motor.

Liqui Moly is my current choice and I like it a little bit better then Motul even though that is a great oil as well. It seems that engine running and shifting is smoother . We switched our cars to Liqui Moly as well again with similar results..
In reality any top tier quality synthetic oil will work for our bikes/cars using the correct weights of course..
In the oil head days I used Redline but they don’t have anything for a wet clutch application afaik…

Castrol Power 1 synthetic 10W-40. $11.99 at O'Reilly's Auto Parts.
They'll order 5w-40 for you. No shipping charge when you pick it up from the store.

I just checked online and it looks like our local store now keeps 5w-40 in stock.
