Oilhead Sight Glass

It was mentioned in a recent post the newer sight windows for Oilheads are now glass rather than plastic. Does anyone know when the switch was made from plastic to glass? Curious as mine was last replaced in 2009.

I can't answer the specific date question but will offer that if I were to believe certain absolutely certain statements in that thread I would be forced to conclude that my pencil-type soldering iron melts glass. Or, maybe a person could get cut on a shard of broken plastic. Take your pick.

I can't find a photo to prove this, but I believe that the older plastic sight glass had a dot in the center. The new glass windows only have a circle on the outer edge.

Maybe someone with an original Oilhead sight window can verify.

My original plastic version had a red dot in the center. The new glass version does not.

Mine has no red dot so it must be glass.
