Oil draining G650GS

JIMMC

New member
I recently bought a 2011 BMW G650GS and decided to change the oil. I opened the drain on the bottom but only a little more than a quart came out. Looking into the oil filler hole I see there is still a lot of oil remaining. My Rider’s book mentions 1.8 quarts Oil tank prefilling and 0.6 quarts Oil tank filling. What must I do to drain all the oil? Jim

1. Remove the left front turn signal. Really! Do this.
2. Remove the left body panel.
3. Notice the oil tank you were looking down into.
4. Drain the tank from the drain plug on the outboard side.

And, you really need a repair manual.

On my 2013 G650GS Sertao I don't mess with removing the body panel and draining the tank. Instead, I use a hand held oil suction tool to remove the oil from the tank...like the ones used to remove oil from automotive differentials. Works fine and saves time.

I also use a suction tool to remove the oil from the K1300S oil tank. This one connects to a compressor.
