O-ring on 2000 r 1100 rtp Fuel Gauge

All, does anyone know the correct placement of this o ring? Took bike apart to replace most of the fuel parts and there doesn't appear to be an obvious reason or place for this o-ring.

Just a wild guess, but I’d suspect its sole function is to retain the connecting wire so it doesn’t flop around and flex. Probably installed over the tube and wire before inserting into tank, then slid down into place once the connection is secured. But, I’ve never had to go into an RT tank with that style sending unit, so I make no guarantees as to the accuracy of my supposition.
