Hello from the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. I live about 10 minutes from Laconia. I traded my Harley Davidson Heritage Classic to an ADVRider member for a very clean 2016 R1200GS with 12K miles. I was born and raised and lived in Southern California until about 2008, when I moved to the opposite spectrum (geographically and mindset wise) in New England. First street bike when I was in my early 20's but never had a BMW in the 30 years (and around 30 bikes) since. Have wanted a GS for years and finally have one in the garage but haven't been able to ride it other than a few local rides due to the crazy "It's spring-just kidding!" weather we've been having here. So I've just been cleaning and fettling the bike with little things here and there until I can actually get out and take a real ride.

Looking forward to meeting and possibly riding with anyone local or just riding through.

Welcome to the forum from south of you in Taxachusetts!
Great looking bike, perfect for Hurricane Mountain road in N. Conway!
Enjoy.

Thanks! It's funny but that road has been on my list to ride for at least a year and I never seem to get over to that side. Always get sucked in by the Kanc and routes North and East of Conway. I'll be heading over there for sure once things clear up weather wise.

On a nice spring or fall crisp day, the Kanc can be a great ride, especially in light traffic and no local radar. :burnout

Short season for you balanced by fantastic riding in every direction and prob only a mile or two before you've got access to the twisties! Although midwest born I grew up in RI and visited VT and NH many, many times. I experienced those roads in my MGB, and although riding an Enduro during those years (a '76 Husky 250WR) I never ventured on roads except to get to and from the power lines. I moved away 40 years ago and do not miss the weather, but while my Mother was still living there I visited once or twice each summer from 2012 through 2016, always on 2 wheels, and had some epic rides. Now alternating between asphalt and easy off-road riding, I've not been on any off-roading in that area but if you're going to consider using that GS to venture farther afield than asphalt, you're prob in the right place. I'm running up to the BMW RA rally over the Labor Day weekend this year, located in Fryeburg, ME. Due to time constraints I'll be running asphalt in my F850GSA, but plan on running 2 or 3 days on the NEBDR, which is in your neighborhood. Check it out on the RideBDR site. There'll be self guided and prob guided off road rides at the rally, and a great opportunity to meet other like minded riders, perhaps many of them from that area. Myself a passionate advocate of training, there'll also be training opportunities at the rally, on road and off. Not to short change the MOA Nat'l Rally, in Redmond, OR, but perhaps too far for you this year, whilst the Fryeburg Rally an easy day ride from NH, or less.

Yes, we have a *very* short riding season (some years it's 6 months or less if you don't like mud and want to ride off pavement) balanced partially, like you said, by excellent riding all around. I actually live on one of those twisty roads. :)

Thanks for the Fryeburg info. That's less than an hour and half from me, so I'm going to look into attending. I have ridden some of the NEBDR in Vermont (coming back from Americade last year) and most of it in NH. One reason I was looking for a GS was that I wanted something that could do mild off road with no worries if things got messy, but is comfortable on the superslab. My '22 KLR650, while great for BDRs is not that comfortable when you have to do some higher speed highway droning. I've been planning some multi day trips and wanted the ability to ride off pavement just as comfortably as on pavement.

Welcome bmw111! That is a great looking bike. Hopefully, the weather becomes more favorable for riding in the very near future. Thanks for posting the pic.

Hard to beat the big GS when it comes to all 'round riding, on and off. I went with the F850GSA because I thought it'd be lighter but its a 2019 so the thinking was make it do everything, whilst now the emphasis is on going lighter. I definitely need to go lighter but have some serious moola invested in this GSA with the suspension upgrade to Tractive front and rear, and farkled (fancy accessory really kool likely expensive) just the way I want, so, I'm going to enjoy Blue (my F850GSA) running the backroads of VA, WVA, MD, PA and NY and then run a couple of days of the NEBDR (the easy ones) and Blue sans it's side cases and top bag, maybe do a couple of the dirt day runs they'll have at the RA Rally. From there on the Sunday of the Labor Day weekend, I'm going to run west to the Wailin' Wayne Weekend in Ohio, another dirt leaning weekend rally, and after that weekend, beat feet back to Asheville. I'll be carrying my camping gear (22lbs) so another reason for mostly asphalt while on the road, as there really aren't any nice hotels near to Fryeburg so camping gear over the shoulder holding a bottle of Aleve in my left hand 😎

Welcome fellow lakes region rider. I live just around the corner in Ctr. Harbor.

Today was sunny, at least, so I took it for a ride to White Mountain Brewery in Ashland. Maybe see you there sometime. Great, great bike. What a motor. I can only imagine the progress made to the platform since 2016.

So Mr BMW111; we're happy that you're happy with your gently used GS! After 30 years of "Riding," now your BMW ADVentures can really begin! I expect U will attend a National BMW Rally at some point in the future; they're all memorable! Next one in Oregon in June.

Next thing ya know, you'll be requesting & accepting a Paul-B Training allotment from the MOA foundation and actually learning how to use the ingrained GS capabilities both on-road & off-road! https://bmwmoaf.org/rider-training/paul-b-rebates/

We enjoyed three days of training with Ken Condon up yonder in CT & MA & VT years ago. Never too old to learn some New Tricks! You can never have enuf tools in your toolbox to ride Safely for many more years... https://www.ridinginthezone.com

Happy Trails whenever U can - Ciao from the scenic Tennessee River Valley!
