Hi. Having looked and wanted a BMW single for many years I have finally convinced my children they are ready for the world outside. So off they go and leave me to restart my 2nd life with a younger F650GS :)
First hurdle is MD inspection, ahhhh lots needed..(Dont worry, my wife is very accepting and approving of my need to relive days past)... I have the local Honda dealer do inspection, Turns out its not a Honda??? need new chain and rear brakes. They cannot get parts as its not a Honda....No one local will do work!! So here I am am with parts for needed repairs but no one local to do the work.
Is it really the case that only a dealer can work on their bikes???
This weekend I will be making the necessary replacements of my chain, pulleys and rear pads to be ready for the MD inspection. Too bad there is no local shop to assist.

Hope to see you out there in 2016

Welcome to the club. It's been my experience that Honda dealers are everywhere but not much good if you own anything other than a Honda that's less than 10 years old. Local Honda shop refused to work on my sons Honda as it was older than 10 years. Never went back, I used to spend a lot of money there too. Most other shops will work on your 650 to include independent shops as well. Meanwhile you can find a lot of information here:

Also, search in YouTube and you'll find a lot of maintenace oriented videos on the 650 as well.

It looks like you have two BMW dealerships in MD.

Thanks for the welcome Rangerreece. That good information you linked to.
I did call Bob's BMW which is about an hour from me, and they gave me good advice on what parts to use etc. I just decided to get stuck in with replacing the parts myself. I'm no stranger to turning wrenches. With the help of youtube, Haynes manual and crazy warm weather it really has helped me get to know the bike.

My next job will be replacing the front tire. Currently running Anakee 3's but looking to see what options there are.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck with the repairs. Lots of folks here do their own work, so good advice and experience abounds. Just ask. :thumb
