New member considering purchase of R1200GS/R1200GSA

Hey folks, new member from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada currently riding Honda ST1300a, seriously considering the switch to an R1200GS or GSA.
I ride a lot of back roads and often find myself faced with gravel. The ST is a fantastic bike but not the greatest for gravel roads. I've been interested in riding more gravel roads and am therefore considering the change to an adventure touring rig.
Will do some more research between now and spring and see where that leads me.

... Welcome aboard John! Smart move joining us before the GS ownership to learn of your possibilities. Back in the day I rode Honda's, including the ST...
but this new low GS is indeed your ticket to gravel and touring. Have a look a Eurosport BMW website from Asheville NC for equipment package pricing...
I would have omitted the keyless ride option on mine. I'm not a fan of that on the GS since it doesn't have pannier or top box capabilities.
I departed the 1200RT for the GS when cruise control became available on the GSw.

Again, enjoy the opportunity's our club offers... see you at Das Rally.

Hey, Eurosport BMW looks like a great place, think I'll have to stick to somewhere a little closer to me though.LOL
I have a question, I've been browsing the internet and have found quite a few people complaining of hard shifting from 1-2-3 on the new GS's, also some complaints of valve clatter on cold starts, have you or anyone else heard or experienced anything like that?
Thanks
John

Rode a brand new R1200GSW, rental for 2 weeks, in Europe this last July. Great bike, although tall.

No shifting problems, no valve clatter that I noticed. My ride is a 2008 RT.
