Need old HES

Ken F

IBA #44567
I am in need of an old Hall Effect Sensor if anyone has one laying around.
Be happy to buy it if reasonably priced....

Thanks,
Ken

Thanks for the links & info guys. Yes that is the replacement, and the reason for my question.

I guess I should have said I'd like to find an old HES plate, and replace the sensors to carry for a backup, since Dad & I both both ride R bikes, and I seem to get delegated to work on many local BMW's, a spare would be handy to have available.

Mine is also out at the moment. I got everything torn apart last night down to the point of removing the lower pully.

I was able to find some of the coveted Beldon Cable, so plan to build a couple of them.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken ask your local dealer. That's where I got my spare. The sensors on the one they gave were good. Just the plug was bad.

I appreciate the replys. Okay, then this begs another question with WOTL included....!

After splitting my old cable open, I found the typical cracks/missing insulation in the wiring right where it went under the strain relief. Rest of the wire looks fine, but this was enough to cause my problem.

I'm definatly going to replace the wire, but how would you guys feel about leaving the old sensors in? On one hand, they are not expensive, on the other hand they are also still good, and I could probably be riding again in much less time.

What say you??

Ken

Mick McKinnon on this list rebuilds them and sells em. He might respond if he reads this.

I think the hardest part of the job would be drilling out the old sensors and then to revit the new sensors in place. What I would do is check to see if your sensors are OK. I've read the write up either on this list or Adventure Rider. It requires a 12v Battery, an LED, and a thin piece of steel to move thru the hall sensor opening. Using this setup I would use a heat gun to warm up the sensor. DO NOT over heat it(I have no idea on how hot the sensor gets on the engine). Check it again when warm if it still works put new wire on it an use it. I think people were using Teflon wire.
