2002 R1150 RTP coil & wire replace question

Hey BMW Forum,

I'm new to BMW MOA but have decades of MC riding and repair of bikes. I have a 2002 1150 RTP (74.5K miles, last seven VIN=ZE88060) with the classic surging, dying problems. Replaced the Hall Sensor and now the fuel pump. Bike was running after Hall sensor replaced but still surging and dying. Shortly later in garage at idle the bike died and would not restart. Fuel pump replaced and bike started right up and idles smoothly. Not road tested yet. Now I want to replace the original coil and spark plug wires with new aftermarket coil/wires with the compatible set from euromotoelectrics. The 1150 RTP has a police version coil and spark plug wire set that appears to be designed to minimize/block radio interference hence the metal shroud around the coil (see pics). Original 02 RTP coil part #=13421789 and wire part #=1342179. New Enduralast coil part#=12 13 1 341 978 and wire part#=12 12 1 342 641.

Conversation with euromotoelectrics: the new coil and spark plug wires look like they are compatible, but recommended I check with the Forum for a confirmation or similar experience. Will the new Enduralast coil/wire set work compatibly to replace the police version coil/wire set on the 2002 R1150RTP? I have no need for a coil/wire set version with special modifications that appears to minimize/block police radio interference.

Thanks, SqueakI40WNC

I can't speak for any of the conversions kits, but I see no reason why you couldn't use the "standard" wires and coils if you don't need RFI [radio-frequency interference] suppression. The police bikes' system is just a lot of grounded shielding to stop (or reduce) the wide-band electronic noise that ignition systems generate.

Way back when I was a younger teen, I swapped out the resistance ignition wires on my dad's Plymouth for some heavy-duty copper cables. The car ran great, but you couldn't listen to the radio at all, just loud "static" (ignition noise) everywhere! Dad was a bit pissed and demanded that I change them back... :nono

Thank you for the response and I agree about there seems to be no reason why the standard coil/wire system would not work fine in place of the original suppression system.
