Navigation Device for 1100RT

So, I bought a 2001 R1100RT, plan on doing some touring and just knew I would use my Phone for navigation. After doing some research and asking questions on this forum, I now lean toward a dedicated Navigation device, like Garmin or similar.What is a simple, reliable unit and what is good mounting option on Oilhead RT ?
Ram mounts ? pictures would be great. Thanks as always

When I've had non-round handlebars, or ran out of room on the handlebars, I’ve used a tank ring RAM mount.

RAM Mount makes a ball that comes with three screws of different lengths. For the 1100RT one of the screws will substitute for one of the handlebar mounting screws. Once the ball is mounted, it's just the usual RAM arm, then the cradle for your chosen device.

I am a fan of Garmin GPS devices, although there are some learning curves with the route planning software. Garmin is the most commonly used product line. I have a Zumo 450, 550 and a 590. The 450/550 are OLD but still are getting map updates. The Zumo 590 is fairly current and has more additional features. The Zumo XT seems to be the new favorite with a very vivid display and a reasonable price.

Michael, thanks for that info. I went and bought that ball, attached it by replacing one of the handlebar mounting screws, attached RAM arm, Ram X-grip mount and bought a Kyocera Duraforce Phone. I will use the phone ( $65.00 ) as a dedicated GPS, downloaded (on home wifi) free offline Navigation ( Sygic ).
There is a great write up on Adventure Rider forum "ultra rugged Kyocera phones, GPS smartphones ....my guide", it spelled out all the how-to and even compared a few models. Super helpful. I have a total of $ 140.00 invested in GPS with mounting.

Good job. Let us know how that setup works out for you. Nice cheap mod that repurposes old phones. I do the same for surveillance cameras.
