Still Wondering
Did you know that if an alarm clock without a battery in the battery backup compartment gets unplugged overnight you will probably oversleep. Has to be a corollary to Murphy's Law.

BMW Group Press Club:

BMW Motorrad ÔÇô Product Range, New Models and Features is featured on the BMW MOA home page. It has all the rundown on the G models.

While we are having so much fun with the new models at Intermot the BMW car guys decided to get together with some of the editors from Car and Driver and go endurance racing with a diesel in December.

BMW OF NORTH AMERICA TEAMS WITH CAR AND DRIVER MAGAZINE TO DEMONSTRATE HIGH-PERFORMANCE DIESEL TECHNOLOGY

10/09/2006

Two 3 Series Sedans Will Compete in 25-Hour Endurance Race
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - October 9, 2006... BMW of North America, LLC announced today that it is teaming up with Car and Driver magazine to demonstrate the high-performance capability of its newest diesel engines. A pair of 335d sedans, equipped with twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engines will compete in the 25-Hours of Thunderhill endurance race that takes place at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, California on December 2-3, 2006.

"BMW's reputation for performance is well-known in the US" said Tom Purves, Chairman of BMW N.A., "but BMW's reputation as a technology leader in high-performance diesels is less well-known here... BMW diesel technology demonstrates our EfficientDynamics philosophy at its best. On the one hand, it offers best-in-class performance; on the other hand, it offers outstanding fuel economy. These are ideal characteristics for endurance racing."

The team of drivers for the two vehicles will be made up of editors from Car and Driver, professional racers, an up-and-coming young driver and the Motorsports Manager of BMW of North America. Editors Csaba Csere, Mark Gillies, Tony Swan and Larry Webster, will team with professional racers Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand, two drivers who have previously placed a BMW M3 in the winners' circle, driving for BMW Team PTG. Joining this group will be Martin Birkmann, Motorsports Manager for BMW of North America and Auston Harris, a young racer on the move.

The December 2-3 running of this endurance road race will be the 10th anniversary of the event and the fourth time since the duration was expanded from 12 hours to 25 hours, making it the longest endurance road race in the world. Car and Driver editors have competed in all three of the previous 25-hour Thunderhill races and have driven in 53 24-hour automobile races between them. The race begins at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2 and concludes at noon on Sunday, December 3.

Spend all that money, race for 25 hours and they will not qualify for a Saddle Sore 1000.
Silly car guys.

Rumors:

I am not above a little speculation that may lead to rumors.

Is BMW done with its release of 5 new models? Or, is the Bavarian company being a little coy? Is the HP2 Megamoto and the K1200RS new models or variants on the existing lineup? We have seen the Megamoto in various forms on the internet for some time. The K RS is a predictable piece of the new K lineup. Contrast them with the Xchallenge, country and moto which were kept deeply under wraps until release.

BMW produced a 50 page document for the press to go along with the releases. Absolutely no mention is made in that document about the HP2 Megamoto. If this is one of the five new models they admit they will be bringing out this year why is it not detailed?

Is there a G450 waiting to be released when the motorrad show circus move to England? It would be a model that could be raced in the dirt. It would constitute a new model addition because of engine size and market placement. It would be a real base model for the lineup. Take a look at the countries that BMW sells in, who rides and what they ride, what their competition has in their lineups. The lineup calls for a 450 as a base model. Besides it is funny how those proper Englishmen like to play in the dirt.

The K RS model is talked about and specifications given. However; within the opening summary section, ÔÇ£INTERMOT 2006 Product Range and new Models/FeaturesÔÇØ the release states in the last paragraph of the section states:

ÔÇ£The current model range is younger than ever before ÔÇô with the exception of the K1200LT Luxury Tourer maintaining the same features as in the past, not one single model has been in the market for more than 2 ?¢ years. Based on a broad range of development activities in recent years, therefore, the entire model line-up has been totally renewed from the ground up ever since the beginning of 2004ÔǪÔÇØ

Is there a LT waiting to be released for the US market at the First CycleWorld International Motorcycle Show when the circus crosses the pond to the Colonies? The press release talks about the RS fitting in between the S and the GT. For the US market the line-up seems incomplete without a new LT. What if this new K LT had an 18 in between the letters?

I am speculating. Keep in mind this section is headed with the title rumors. This speculation and a five dollar bill will get you a small coffee, a roll and change at the Lilydale coffee shop.

Intermot

The Ducati 649 Hypermoto and its 1100cc big brother are the bikes the BMW G-Xmoto and HP Megamoto will be fighting with for sales.

According to Ducati, the big Hypermoto is slated to arrive at dealers in the spring of 2007. Normally the diminutive of a model follows the year after and so it is in this case with the 649 Hypermoto scheduled as a 2008 model.

In the 60ÔÇÖs and 70ÔÇÖs Road & Track magazine knew that if they put a Corvette or Cobra on the magazines cover they would have to increase that months production run. Cycle World and other motorcycle magazines reported the same thing when they put this piece of British motorcycling on their covers. Riding Skills:

Snow started falling overnight. Last night the weather reporters assured me that it would be gone by the weekend. This well traveled subject matter for the Rounders in the group. Others may want to extend their riding season by picking up some pointers.

Bike Candy:

Bently owners may be a bit stressed, do they really think they are number one, or are they just VW owners who are jealous of how Rolls Royce and BMW Motorrad complement each other in September BMW Group sales?

The web site, The Cool Hunter, gives us this explanation:

Pictures may tell a thousand words but a simple finger tells just one! This cocky ad campaign for Bentley, tells it like it is. As the visuals tell the story, we wont labor the point. Well done Bentley! by Billy T

With the Rolls Royce division appearing regularly in the Morning Reads I could not pass it up.

Now to the bike candy.

Dear Santa,

BMW has announced a bunch of new bikes. Can you leave one like this under the tree? I will be double good to make up for posting the Bentley adv.
