Mind Blown! R1200RT mirrors fold!

The earlier RTs have detachable mirrors with rubber straps to retain them. Not as elegant as the newer solution but it works.

Did not know that. I struggle every fall and spring getting it through the basement door, trying not to scrape the mirrors.

If you add some double-sided tape to them, it helps with the vibrations at speed too. I made a video about it.

Hmm. I think you may have possibly added a "band-aid" fix to overcome a different issue.

I ride a 2015 RT and started to detect a minor vibration [don't recall what speed] that went away if I increased or decreased speed a little, not many miles before a service was due. After the service, no vibration.

And possibly, to your utter amazement, as if magical even, I'll add this.

If you bang your mirror hard enough from front to rear, the front housing cover will fall off!
But,... unless the bike goes to sleep, or is on its way to the ground because of a violent or hard collision with something other than a forearm while walking by it, the actual housing piece will never hit the floor. The housing cover is attached to the mirror body by clips and a cord, which will hold it up.

The most amazing of all however, it's remarkably easy enough to put back together with no tabs and no velcro'ed pieces being damaged at all. It's actually by planned design. :clap :clap :clap

I had never read that page in the repair manual. So yes, I'll take it as magical!
