K75 vs. K100

Squarehead

Crazed Individual
Hi,

I am thinking about selling my 1990 K75T low seat for a K100RS. I think I want the bigger engine a little more wind protection which should give "me" longer rides on the Bike.

I know that the 75 is the smoothest. But is it that big of difference? Will I suffer with my vertically challange inseem? about29"

any thoughts are good.

Thanks

I am one of the few that prefers the K100 over the K75. I sold a K75C that I had not ridden much and have ridden a K100LT over 22k in 18 months. My K100 does not vibrate a lot, but......it sets up a harmonic vibration around 3500-4000rpm that vibrates the fairing. I don't feel it much, but the noise runs me crazy. That is the rpm I ride with my wife on the back.

My 100 doesn't whine much, I did not care for the whine of the K75, but you already own a K75. The power difference is what makes me like the K100.

The K100RS will be much heavier than your K75 and will be a much tougher chore to ride slow. Don't know how warm Big Sky Country is right now, but I wish I had kept the naked K75. As a matter of fact I'm selling my K100LT because it is too hot to ride in the summer. The RS will be great at 40 degrees, but a killer over 85. The RS should let more air on the rider than the LT. Maybe if I had a RS I wouldn't be selling mine. A RS owner can give you a better answer on that.

I wear 32 inseam pants, have a Bill Mayer seat and I can not flat foot my K100LT. I do think the RS will be a problem for you unless you have very strong legs and hips. I do, I'm use to it, bit I have 3 inches on you.

My opinion, take it and $1.50 and buy a cup of coffee.

Smoothness, like power, is an individual need. I am happy solo on a K75, but if I carried a heavy passenger in mountains, I would want more power.

Probably.

I wear a 30 inch inseam, and prefer the low seat, particularly for backing or maneuvering in tight spots when I want both feet planted. For driving down the road, with the normal red lights and stop signs etc, the regular seat is OK for me. But, If I wanted more power I would go for the K100 and lower the standard seat or install a low seat.

The regular seat can be lowered . Remove the vinyl and foam off and fill the waffle pattern of the seat base with hard foam. Then lay a layer of Army roll-up sleeping foam over the driver's part. Then lay a Freedom Air cushion on that, and adapt the factory foam to make it look decent, blending the passenger part, and reupholster. The design guy at Freedom Air said that it works best on a hard, flat surface. This will give you a lower but still comfortable standard seat.

I am presently riding on a standard seat base with the Army foam on my low seat K75. I have not yet filled in the waffle, but rides of a couple of hours straight are OK. For longer trips, out comes the Freedom Air. This was my way to go, but lately, I am thinking the narrower nose of the low seat has its advantages, so I will soon go back to the low seat, do a hack job on the low seat foam and do the foam/Freedom Air thing next.

Preferences vary on air cushions. Some don't like them at all, and some love them. An air cushion on any seat raises the rider, so I would not use one unless the seat were cut down. I have had both Air Hawk and Freedom Air. I much prefer the Freedom Air, as the Air Hawk felt "teetery" but your butt may be different, so give it a try.
