Hello.... Sold my R80 33 years ago and now retired and the bug is back. Just bought a 2013 1200 RT with 33K miles. Its sitting in the garage while I’m re-learning how to get it up on the center stand... and will get the DMV paperwork done this week. Started it up tonite after sitting for about 5 days …sounds great…but the Break Failure light flashes…Looked on Youtube for why this may have come on and what the impact is…ie can I ride it…etc. Prior owner says once its in gear and drive it , light will go out...is he right ?
Would appreciate any help. Long way from BMW dealer…so will attempt to resolve on my own..

Welcome to the forum, Ed, and back to BMW!! You're located on the cusp of nice riding country...hope you get out to ride it soon!

I'm not too versed in the R1200RT but others here are. I did some searching and found some threads that might provide some background. Probably getting access to the GS911 tool might help narrow in on what the problem is.

Welcome to the forum! Yes, bikes with ABS (yours and mine) show a flashing brake failure light until the bike is in gear and moving a bit (mine takes about 10-20 feet of driveway) before the light goes off. No problems.

Good luck.
