For those who followed my epic introduction to BMWs report, I thought it was time to follow up. I just got back from a ride, and besides the 110 degree temps and smoke filled air, the ride went without a hitch. It seems to run better each time I ride it. Other than a little oil smoke on start up after sitting on the side stand, everything works like it did 110K miles ago. Apparently, these bikes are hard to kill.

Thanks for posting the link that shows the photo of the missing/broken parts, it's a long read to get to that point.
My son in law was most impressed with the adjustable windshield and removable luggage, like magic. Now that I'm a BMW expert (Ha!) I can
impress the natives. These are really nice machines.
