I just got a great deal on a Gerbing jacket. What do I need for wiring & controller?

I would stay with all Gerbing wiring and controller.
I would recommend wiring Gerbing’s pigtail wired directly to your battery.

The Warmnsafe Remote controller works fine with your Gerbing jacket. The Warmnsafe controller uses AAA batteries while the Herring uses a 1023. In my experience the AAA last longer. Use a direct to the battery connection as suggested above. All of the Gerbing or WarmnSafe controller accouterments should easily fit into the internal jacket pocket. Make sure you hook things up properly. The Warmnsafe controller is physically smaller, the remotes are essentially the same size.

During the 1990s I used a Widder heated vest. I believe that this used an analog controller (i.e., potentiometer - variable resistor) to allow one to vary the heat output of the vest. At the Midland, Michigan MOA rally (early 2000s as I recall) I purchased a Gerbing heated jacket liner and gloves. The wired controller (which I still use) looks identical to those sold by Warm n' Safe and uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to vary the heat output to the jacket liner and gloves.

An issue that I discovered with my R1200RTw, which has the keyless ignition, concerns Electro-Magnetic Interferrence (EMI) from the PWM heat controller. I typically place the R1200RTw key in my left pants pocket. When using the Gerbing heated jacket liner, worn beneath my one-piece 'Stich, I place the PWM controller in the 'Stich left leg pocket. I get the "key" symbol on the dash indicating that the key signal is lost. I attribute this to EMI as it does not happen at other times (unless the battery needs changing). My solution is to place the key in the front of the tankbag which is closer to the wireless receiver for the keyless ignition. One does need to retrieve the key from the tankbag when parking the bike

That is because back then Gerbing acquired one or more Warm & Safe controllers and reverse engineered the circuits. Then they commissioned a company located somewhere on the globe to manufacture controllers for Gerbing. Mike at W&S complained loudly at the time. Interestingly, there was a minor glitch in the circuitry for the early W&S controllers and the knockoffs repeated that error in their production. I have been a Warm & Safe fan and user ever since, because I really don't like tech piracy. I didn't then; I don't now. YMMV
