Hello boys and girls!

Hope everyone is doing well after so much turkey.

Are there any forbidden topics in the MOA forums? I am not going to repeat a rumor heard elsewhere, so I thought I would ask the question in general terms. If so, can people jump in and tell me what they are?

Certainly a topic that promoted criminal activity ought not to be allowed, as we wouldn't want the MOA seen as endorsing that kind of thing. Also, I understand the desire to be family-friendly, so verbal or pictorial obscenity is a no go. Beyond that, what else?

I didn't like what I found very much, though, even though I think good intentions were behind it.

ETA: To me, the real "bad thing" is uncivil discourse, not subject matter. I think it better to punish the offenders than those who can carry on a conversation like an adult.

A sub-forum in which Paul's forbidden four were allowed to be discussed was tried a while back. Did not seem to workout as well as one one might hope. Opinions differ on how we should have responded, but ultimately it went the way of Edsel.

I doubt there is any stomach for another attempt anytime soon. If you thrive on "frank and candid" discussions among open minded people, then you can head over to the Jo Momma sub-forum over at Adventure Rider. Wear your titanium underwear.
 
"The Tavern" was the cespool--- I mean place--- where we discussed guns/politics/religion. I didn't care whether it stayed or went, as I never visited it. You'd be surprised how seemingly normal/sane people turn into complete raving asshats when politics or religion are brought up. Hence, I never visit CS&M on advrider, either. (Jo momma is nothing scary.)
 
Funny, but I don't see why guns are verboten. They are just inanimate objects , like any machine. Not good or bad , just a thing like any other piece of metal.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

In fact, we have tried twice (Don't Go There and Tavern on the Screen) to have an open area here where there are no topic limitations, and both times it went down in flames. The second time, the forum area was run by the folks that most wanted the area to succeed, and they closed it themselves after about 6 months.

This is the club's website and forum, and like it or not, it presents a public face of the club. Adv Rider isn't a tail on club, so there's no dog to wag. The people posting here have paid $40 for the privilege, and have (in general) certain expectations about what they will find here. It's a different model from Adv Rider. So, no "hot button" topics (includes abortion, btw), no spam, no personal attacks or trolling, no sex or nudity.

Yes, most parts of it. The clubhouse and the elections forums (they sprout like mushrooms before a club election) are exceptions. We hope that the search engines pick the general topics up and bring people to us that might then become members.

DGT and TotS were both invisible to the outside world, but the mods were often flooded with complaints from the membership about the content.

I think the funniest thing about the two failed attempts was people not even reading the threads but complaining about the titles.
