BMW Group again with the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.
08.02.2008

Munich. It offers driving pleasure for every occasion and leaves with their optical qualities lasting impression. The BMW Xcountry G 650, the BMW Group within a few months, the second high-profile design award introduced. After the red dot award 2007 is now also the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany for the Scrambler model of the BMW X Series G 650. The sporty, lightweight shaped appearance of the single-cylinder motorcycle was adopted by the jury with a design in gold price appreciated. The Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Michael Glos, presented the award today at the opening of the trade fair "Ambiente" in Frankfurt / Main, Germany.
The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is the most important official design award in Germany. It is a year since 1969 by the Council for shaping commissioned by the German Economics Ministry. The awarding of prizes will be decided by a design experts from international jury. For the Design Award 2008 were 744 nominated products. Only 25 of them were with the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, 5 of them in gold, 20 in silver.

The BMW Group is already the fifth time in succession to the winners. In recent years, for example, the coupe and the convertible the BMW 6 Series. For 2008 BMW motorcycle once again leads an innovative concept and its implementation for demanding visual success. With the BMW 650 G Xcountry BMW motorcycle segment in the Scrambler new impetus. The 39 kW/53 hp single-cylinder bike is designed for use in city traffic and on gravel roads and Serpentine-designed passports. This versatility comes in a clear and authentic expression to the design. Light weight and easy handling characterized the BMW 650 G Xcountry - properties, which are reflected in the proportions. At the same time, give brand attributes - for example in the design of the headlamp and the side panels - the BMW 650 G Xcountry its distinctive character.

BMW motorcycle design: Clearly defined proportions, brand gestures.
For BMW motorcycles, the first proportions belonging to a segment. Super athletes, Enduro, touring or Cruiser - "we need to be clearly defined segment proportions," says David Robb, director of the BMW motorcycle design studios. "Typically BMW" will be a motorcycle on the other hand, only by his gesture. Above all, the so-called Flyline, the line running from the fork on the tank to the bench, makes the typical BMW design. "It is important to us that a powerful character to light occurs, the equally strong as the premium quality. BMW was the first manufacturer to its brand identity on these words, gestures," stressed Robb.

The gesture is typical BMW with every new model shows the respective product properties are authentic in design visualized. "The outstanding BMW engineering provides enough reason to emphasize self technical details," says Robb. Even with the designers to keep the overall appearance of the motorcycle in sight. "We want our motorcycles as a composition effect, in which every detail its contribution to the harmonious overall impression is, no matter whether they are air vents, rear-view mirrors or covers for seating, Airbox or clutch," said Robb. The result compares it with a jazz piece, in which each note counts, but only in the entirety the desired effect. Unlike an automobile remains the view while watching a motorcycle in a variety of technical details are liable, and yet it is the harmonious interplay, which in itself attracts attention.

Emotional Design: The needs of the driver determine the shape.
To the character of a new model to clearly state, the designers also consider the symbiosis between the driver and his motorcycle. Using Tonmodellen in their original size, not only details in fine careful work best, but also the overall impression. To this end, the designers consider their draft not only repeatedly from different angles, they are also on the model to ensure that drivers and motorcycle into a dynamic whole. "This impression plastic, we can only work on the clay model check," says Robb. The result is not only visible but also noticeable. "We do not dictate the technology, such as BMW motorcycle design looks, but the driver with its factual and emotional needs," said Robb. "Motor Cycling is a very sensual experience. Emotional And the design we operate, the more emotions, the customer experience."

In the authentic visualization of the product also features Chris Bangle, BMW Group Design Head, the most important parallel with the design development of the BMW brand. "What we express shapes, agrees with the product qualities match," said Bangle. "The strength of the BMW motorcycle design is the fusion between technology and aesthetics." Hence the high value of the motorcycle designs within the BMW Group Design.
