Final Drive Fill Tool: where to get?

Question re. final drive oil change.

Where can I find the aftermarket tool for injecting oil into the final drive unit? While I managed to use a regular syringe, but it was messy, left a bit of a mess.

I use this. You can probably find the bottles at Walmart or Bed, Bath and Beyond.

For several years I used a 60cc syringe and it worked well if I filled slowly.
Now I use a squeeze bottle with a angled tip. The angled tip makes it easier to get all the oil in. You can buy the bottle from a beauty supply place for less than $2.
Here's what it looks like.

As mentioned above Jim VonBaden sells a bottle, hose and a metal fitting that screws into the fill hole on the final drive.
No chance of spilling with his setup.
You can see it on the ADV thread.

If you can't see the ADV thread, the tool is $35.

I found some 100CC syringes on the internet. I think the vendor sold them for hydroponic gardening. Basically the same as what BMW sells, but much cheaper.

Cajun injector

I use a turkey baster. Cut the tip off so it doesn't spray to the side. Pour correct amount in a 2 cycle oil graduated container. Measures oz and ml. Been using the same one for years.

I use an angled tip hair color bottle available for a couple bucks at any beauty supply store as noted above. Has graduated markings in ml and the angled tip makes the job easy.

Thanks guys! This is helpful. As a ad-hoc measure, I used a small syringe I found in the medicine cabinet to do the oil change. But since the syringe was quite small, I had to do 5-6 shots to get all the oil in and hence the mess.

I use the same device I use for filling front forks. It is a typical gear oil bottle with the bottom cut off and a wire bail attached. It has vinyl tubing attached to the pointed spout and a pointed vacuum line connector in the other end. I hang the bottle, insert the tip into the fill hole, and pour the measured quantity of lubricant into the bottle. Then I have a cup of coffee while gravity does the work.

I added a little to the title- and the Tag Cloud. It will help others looking for help with their fill.

As an aside, when I fill a rear end or other hard to fill "port", I like to have the oil warmed up so that the flow is as good as it gets. As mentioned, If I'm good on a known measure I like to let the container hang to insure an accurate fill.

That’s helpful. When I did mine, the oil was cold and kind of hard to squirt in. As a result, some oil had definitely spilled out.

While I am sure I got most of the oil in, how do I know if there is enough in there? Eyeball it? Please help! Thx.

The way you know the right amount is in there is that you put the right amount in. There is not a way to eyeball it that I know of. It's not like the tranny fill. Do you use the 75-90 or the 140 stuff?

I doubt a few ml's will make a lot of difference. However, if you're talking about more than 5ml I'd start over with everything warm. It is a fairly small total volume.
