Well, I looked at it tonight....
Pluses:
Bike started up and sounds clean-running after apparently being idle for quite some time, but it's typically finicky K-bike starting after a cold winter. Once the cylinders started spinning, predictable cloud of sweet smoke let me know it was happy. No audible issues enginewise.
It has a fresh battery.
It has the original seat with a rip up front on the upturn (black&yellow), and a replacement seat (black), both seem comfy... replacement softer than my 75's corbin.
Looks like fairly virgin metzelers on it, no serious signs of rot/crack/etc on the tires.
Also looks like the brake recall maint was done... no signs of scoring on the rotors.
Last inspection looks like 1/2005, and it looks like it was probably done at Mortons, since it has "the Sticker Plate"
Now for the list on minuses....
10" long crack in the front wheel fairing, apparently he "plastic welded" it together on the underside, but there's a very visible 1/16" or 1/8" level seperation in the plastic. It either needs to be re-broken and fixed right, or sanded down as is and repainted. Paint is a must, period.
Mystery fluid leak in the front has wetted and bubbled the paint on the front of the lower. Probably brake fluid, but it could theoretically be fork fluid. Either way, paint required.
Various chips all over the various corners of the bodywork. micro-scratches all over the paint from either careless washing, following vehicle on dirt roads, or blowing leaves off the bike with a leaf blower. Needs paint, and if you want to preserve the nice pretty K1 logo, a lot of careful masking.
Front right glove compartment frozen shut, corrosion around the lock.
Looks like covers missing on the rear 1/4 panels (mentionned as a common problem earlier).
ABS system won't kick in, brake indicator and ABS indicator flashing. Dunno if you have to drive at 4mph to clear it like a GS, but I tried pulling both brakes to clear the warning light like my non-ABS K75, no luck. Disable switch on the ABS works. If it's supposed to charge right away, it's at least a repair, if not a replacement issue.
Four-way emergency flasher doesn't work. I didn't check the turn signals (oops), and wasn't paying attention to the headlights (oops).
Various metal fittings (like brake lines and such) showing light-medium rust indicative of extended stays outdoors and possibly in salt conditions.
29,600 on it, not the 14,5-ish his buddy told me.
It looks pretty decent from 10 feet, but up close, there's issues. It needs a plastic work and paint, needs some serious TLC, and one heck of a good look at the various systems to ensure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
In the back of my mind, the voice keeps saying "...but it's a K1" but that voice versus the asking price, the 'responsible spender' is winning. Honestly, a bit of time and TLC I think would turn up a really, really sweet bike. But... and it's a big BUT.... I don't have the time or the skills to do fiberglass or paint, and the buddy of mine that does is on the wrong coast. Or I am. And spending $$$$ is gonna rack up FAST.
I didn't get a chance to ride it, just didn't have time, and there wasn't enough gas in it to try.
So, "whatcha think it's worth now" :=)
Oh yeah, if I didn't say earlier, it's Red....
