Thank you BMWMOA for assistance with supplying the 17 page direct to the point fluid change for the Anti-lock brakes. The fluid looked really good so I might prolong the service interval by several intervals. The system is so over-built that the recommended modulator service interval is perhaps merely a recommendation and applicable to two-up riding, loaded down and living off the bike for weeks on end. The fluid looked that good. I did over tighten the ventilation valves breaking the top off of the rear power assist unit. So to the SF BMW to pick up a new one. Only $102.00. While at the shop substantial hubbub ensued as an unwelcome customer attempted to test ride a customers GS. Man what an episode the parts and service staff didn't need. I didn't find it amusing either. Imaging trying to run a business in a retail environment thus.
The biggest issue of tank removal is the requirement for space and emptying adequate quantities making the gas tank removal possible. I can now remove the fairing panels and tank in under an hour. I bought a siphon bulb on Amazon and used a good thick suction side uptake line that permits access to crevices. Total job my 2nd time performing, under 4 hours. Total fluid extracted was 250-300ml. I used Prestone. There's a reason it's number one. The RC car fueling Nalgene squeeze bottle dramatically cleans up the process enabling accurate dispensing of fluid during the feed and bleed process.
The fairing comes off pretty regularly now at every oil change. The tank only for the occasional brake modulator service. It's only 4 screws and including siphoning only takes at most 40mins to properly remove. I am becoming so adept at service. I might never get rid of this bike for sake of familiarity with mandatory maintenance. To me all is mandatory. This bike was expensive and I knew from past experience what happens to many of these super machines. They become neglected and fall apart. This bike has been absolutely 100% reliable, I could ride across the USA tomorrow on it. It's that good.
