Exit full screen mode on the phone when Connected App starts navigation

That's What She Said
I am new to Connected App (Apple iOS) and have so far figured out everything I need it to do. All fine and dandy! When I start an imported route and get moving on the bike, my phone goes into full screen mode and starts displaying the navigation part of the app in full screen which is exactly how it is supposed to work and I am perfectly fine up until here. Great visibility, clear instructions...all wonderful! Now...How am I supposed to get out of the full screen mode if I want to access something else on my phone? I tap...nothing, I pinch...nothing, I double tap...nothing. The only way I can get out of the full screen navigation mode is to swip up and fully close the app from inside of Apple iOS, which gets ride of everything and I have to relaunch the connected app and start the routing and navigation again. I don't think this is the only option but haven't found anything else that points me to the right direction. Also, unable to find any manual for the app...soooo last ditch effort...MOA to the rescue...thank you in advance.

IANAAU (I am not an Apple user) but if you can get to your notifications or app switcher through a swipe action...? On Android, you swipe up from the bottom edge for buttons to access the app switcher, or down from the top for notifications... With the cradle you can also swicth CR app screens using the wonder wheel.
