Excessive cam and lobe wear at 12K miles in 2022 1250 GSA

While doing the 12K valve clearance check, Max BMW noticed that both cams and lobes were heavily scored. They attribute this to a manufacturing defect. Warranty covers this, so no issue there, but I am wondering whether other 1250 owners have faced a similar issue. Thank you in advance for any feedback.

The problem was around for 1200 WC engines but have not seen any 1250 Shiftcam engines with worn cams.

OP, please follow up with your outcome both from the repair/replacement and the willingness of BMW and the dealer to resolve this. As mentioned history has shown a problem here. I'm sure there are lots of us who are curious due to our experiences. Thanks

Good morning, I can already confirm that MAX BMW sent pictures to BMW Motorrad USA. Max tech seemed pretty confident that Motorrad would cover this under warranty and already booked the appointment for 28th of December, assuming the parts arrive on time. They told me I could keep riding the bike, although I might ask them to change the oil again just to make sure no metal particles are trapped in the oil filter. I will keep posting as new information is available.

I am interested in the history. I cannot find a single instance of a 1250 on any of the forums having cams fail. They had a known issues with the 1200 wetheads and the DLC coating failing on the followers. But nothing on the 1250s. Do you have some references for 1250 cam failures. Would love to see them.

Good morning, the Max Tech showed me pictures and stated that it looked like an issue with the DLC coating on the cam lobes.

Great. Here we go again. I have a 22 1250gs. I sold my out-of-warranty 1200gs just to stay away from this potentially expensive problem.
