I just changed my center stand with a shorter one, bike, 2008 1200RT, was lowered. The lubricant was dry so I used waterproof grease. The problem is how to reapply the spring? Ideas.

Several effective methods for this, sometimes it's easy with a big screwdriver. They also make a spring pulling tool, or get some parachute cord and use the back wheel to pull it into place.

You can help stretch the spring by inserting shims between the coils. That is easiest done before the spring is removed, though.

How did you make out with this? My bike is an 07 that was lowered by previous owner. It is very difficult to get the bike up on the center stand and I am guessing the center stand is the standard height. Of course I am wondering if the lowered stand improves this aspect for you.

Just got the *****spring on. Now I can get it on the center stand without rocking and straining. Yes I would do it! Read above suggestion about placing coins in the spring BEFORE you take it off. It took two of us to get that spring back on. I cut off 1.25" and thwe bike had been lowered 40mm.
