BMW Parts Delay - Frustration

This is the official response to my query to BMW. Been waiting for over two months for a new wiring harness for my 1999 R110RT. As follows:

Thank you for contacting BMW Motorrad USA regarding parts for your 1999 BMW R 1100 RT. We are sorry to hear that your parts are being delayed.

BMW does not offer an estimated timeline on parts availability. There are many factors such as BMW Retailer inventory, vendor supply, international shipping, and US customs inspections that determine parts delivery timelines. You will find that the Parts Department at your BMW Retailer is the best resource for the most up-to-date information on your part. We are sorry if this is disappointing information for you.

If you have any further questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time.

I feel for you.
I'm sure it is not a big moving part if at all. The bike being almost 10 years old doesn't help either.
What BMW should do is be able to give you a firm date as to when you can expect it.
Can yours not be repaired? How about Beemer Boneyard for a used one?
Best of luck to you.

I noticed, while looking for replacement shocks for my 1100 RT, that there was a BMW R1100RT Complete Wiring Harness w/ Fusebox listed by Deep 6 Auctions (July 26, 2009). It was listed as used for 49.50 and with a Buy It Now price of 99.00. I don't know if this would help but thought I'd pass it along!

Wiring Harness

I have been waiting over a month for a 2002 1150RT harness. They will give no estimate on ETA. Sure lucky I have an LT or there would have been no riding this year!

Did you try looking at the wreckers?? Re-psycle Parts....www.re-psycle.com might have something...they were great with me last week when I ordered a wheel....
I am sure you could get a used harness from somewhere at less than half the cost.....

Beemerboneyard has one for $145. That's a great deal considering that a new one is $1000. I have a good one also but BB is going to be cheaper.

And Beemerboneyard has amazing service in my experience.

Today I placed an order for odds & ends (fuel filter, oil, brake fluid, etc.). The order was placed at 12:46 pm. At 1:22 pm I got an email that the items had been shipped. Wow.

Customer Service

We do a lot of business with German companies for work. A co-worker had a great line about the differences between US and German customer service. In the US, the customer service representative wants to help you but doesn't know how. In Germany, the customer service rep knows how to help you but doesn't want to.:)

Something that we have done in similar circumstances for work is to ask the distributor (or manufacturer) to check to see if a dealer (or distributor) in another state might have the part on the shelf. This has saved us from a long lead time more than once.

I wonder how fast they would react if you told them you designed a new club logo patch using the bmw roundell in it's complete form for a harley outlaw motorcycle club.
