I have a 2007rt with tthe original battery. I think it's probably due to die soon. What batteries do you guys recommend? I've seen a lot here about the Odyssey pc-680. There appears to be several versions (and prices ) for the PC-680. Is it a lead acid battery? Same size/weight?

Why new battery

Have you often many times completely drained your battery requiring a boost?
Don't use a trickle charger?

I am just curious. I think it should last another year to two in my opinion.

I replaced my original battery last year (2011) on my 2004 R1200C. I replaced it with Panasonic. I have heard good reviews about Odessey PC-680.

Make sure you use battery tender/trickle charger when not using your bike.

You need to do a search here. The Odyssey is an AGM battery. Go to their website to read more. Bikerfish here posted a real $$$ deal on them recently & IMO they're worth the $$$.No matter what you buy keep it on a good charger(another search).:thumb

Prudent that you consider replacing your motorcycle battery after 4+ years of use. While there are all kinds of "My Uncle Wilbur's OEM battery lasted a decade!" testimonials out there, four good years of service is good enough.

No sense waiting for it to fail, and that occurring in the middle of a trip.

Odyssey PC 680 has been well-reviewed, and is an excellent choice.

Consider purchasing from a Batteries Plus store. That way, should you have problems on the road, they will be able to help you and are far more numerous than BMW dealers. :thumb

Panasonic

I bought my Panasonic batter from I think it's called BatteryWeb.com in Florida and mention bmwmoa this way they waive delivery charge - free delivery.

I bought my 2005 r1200rt in August of last year, it had an Odyssey battery that was installed in March 2011. It died in Oct. Took it back to Batteries plus, they tested it and determined it had a shorted cell and gave me a replacement even though I did not buy the original battery but finally found the original receipt after buying a new Odyssey from Amazon.

The battery starts the bike right up even in freezing cold temps after the bike has sat several days.

If you are interested in the Odyssey I have my replacement PC680-P, new in the box I will sell for $85 plus shipping.
