I bought an Odyssey battery for my R12RT from batterymart.com. It's only been a month so I can't say much other than they were easy to order from and shipped it quickly, and it works well.

If you order from them, I happened to view my cart, then decided not to buy yet and clicked away. When I did that, it popped up with a "buy now and save 10%" offer. So you might try that. They ship free, too.

Yes, I bought one (PC925L) almost four years ago and overall it has been the best motorcycle battery I have owned. It might just be my imagination, but it seemed to crank my old airhead better than any of the others. I have seen a couple reports of them going bad early in life, but most reports have been very positive concerning their longevity.

If I remember correctly, the only problem I had was a minor one. I had to place the battery on one side in order to properly connect the cables, and that was a little tricky making the connection but not bad. From what I understand, the battery is made so one can safely install it on any side.

Two immediate reactions --

1. The + & - terminals are on the wrong sides (and will require some form of adaptors/bending/whatever, as the OE cables are oriented vertically and longitudinally).

2. Not clear to me that the battery would drop into stock battery tray -- appears too long.

I have nothing against the Odessy -- I have one in the wife's short-frame toaster /5 (rattle canned black). Off the top of my head, I believe it was a PC680

I've done a lot of research on prices and availabilty. if you order direct from the factory you can get the one for my bike, (99RT) for $124.65 w/free shipping. locally at Battery Plus the same Battery is $159.95 plus tax.

I've had mine in my R80 for two years and think it is the way to go. No need to trickle charge in the off season, just pull the negative cable. It was a different installation than the wet cell, I have the terminals facing to the rear but +/- remain on the correct sides. That would make the battery standing on edge, not flat, no problem for an AGM. My positive lead I had to stretch a wee bit and bend a right angle on the ring terminal, the negative lead pretty much hooked right up. I did shim the stock battery case with a 1/4' of plywood to secure it, the new battery being a little thinner across.

Pc680

I have the Odessey PC680 in my 74 R75 and my 82 R65.

I can remove the battery without dropping the rear subframe on the 74 R75 which was a PIA :banghead.

Battery's Plus list the PC680 as a replacemnet for both bikes.

Terminals are on the correct side. Check which Odessey battery is a direct replacement for your bike.

I had to create a custom tie down for the battery as the stock BMW tie down system does not work.

Has the correct Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) as required for my bikes.

Works great does not leak battery acid they are gel cells no more battery tray corrosion :dance

PC680 at Battery's Plus was about $116 expensive but worth it.

I like it.

Going on the second year in my 1976 R75/6. Did not use adapters terminals were on the correct side ( may have bought a different model?). Battery is about 1/4" to tall makes the tool tray a little tight but still fits. Cranks and works better than any battery I have ever had in this bike in the 24 years I have owned it.

Seems to be corrosion free and does not need a vent tube another plus. Another effort to drag the past into the future that seems to be working. :thumb

Also fits without pulling rear frame bolts or battery box loose as said above, another plus. Only minus is it is red and expensive.

It's true that the terminals are positioned on the front of the battery instead of the top like other batteries. It was not a hard modification to make the connection. I'm not sure about other models, but it fit perfectly in the stock battery trays of both my airhead and K1.

we are talking about PC925L....correct?

Mine dropped right into the battery tray on my 84 R100RT and hooked up (terminals on the front) same as the battery that was in there.

It's slightly tall, raises the tool box a hair, but doesn't cause any interference.

I have two Odysseys now, and the rest of the bikes will get Odysseys when it's time to replace theirs.

Yes the PC925L Here is a link to the Odyssey company's application chart for motorcycles. Click Here It does show the PC925L for your 94 R100RT.

It is odd that I have seen pics of the PC925 and the PC925L and in the picture the location of the terminals is the same on both batteries, they probably just use the same generic picture. I know I ordered the PC925L and my paperwork says the same. I would like to take a quick digital photo, but it is currently in my K1 and is not very visible.

Mine is a PC925R.... opposite of what is in the stock picture at the start of the thread. I would think the PC925L would therefore mount with the terminals facing forward. I have seen the PC680 in airheads, it is quite a bit smaller in both physical size and amperage. FWIW...I would go with the larger battery, worth the effort to fit.

check out the CCA ratings- i tend to consider them of (possibly) greater relevance than just the aH rating.
no experience with a Tempest.

I agree about the CCA ratings. Tempest doesn't disclose theirs. I searched for a way to calculate it, but there doesn't seem to be a straightforward method.

I ordered a new PC 680 today for my 99 RT. the lady that took my order told me that they use a PC 680 in their street rod, that has a Chevy 327 in it. she also told me that as long as the volts are at 12 or above I can use my BMW Charger. if the volts fall below 12 they recomend you bring it back up with a 6 amp Charger. :thumb

The linked website states 380 CCA for the Tempest.

It's a free country when it comes to marketing hype but CCA strictly is a measure of amps delivered in a 30 second period at zero degrees until the battery drops to 7.2 volts. Odyssey advertises very high CCA but their ad copy gives it in shorter periods of time when inrush amps are at their highest but they drop very quickly over time. If I am not mistaken they don't give the standard 30 second rate in the same ad for comparison to other batteries that use the industry standard CCA measurement. Similar batteries that give "lower" CCAs at the standard rate may give the same performance over time as an Odyssey for far lower cost.

Just 'sayin.

I have used a Deka AGM (ETX30L ????) for three years in my R100. It is a drop-in fit, the terminals are OEM placement, and it is about $80 or $90 now depending on source. 365 CCA.
