'95 K75 Missing key

DARKCLOUD

New member
Bought a "95 K75 the previous owner was to send me the sole ignition key. He can't find it. Do I have any other options besides having a locksmith make a new key? Do locksmiths get sick when you ask them to work on a BMW? The previous owner told me the luggage was keyed differently. Thanks, Jon

Yes, different keys

I have a 95 as well. The ignition key fits the ignition obviously, the seat lock/helmet lock combination and also the fork lock.
The key(s) for the 3 luggage pieces (getting them on and off as well as locking and opening them up) is a different key.

I'm not at home now but if you'd like I can take a picture of the luggage keys and maybe there is a number on them later tonite. Maybe a locksmith can help you if they are common. They don't seem to be proprietary like the ignition key. Or a parts guy at a BMW dealership.

Check MAX's on-line parts catalog.

I was able to get a key from Bobs BMW a few years ago by faxing them a copy of the reg and title in my name with the bike serial number.

My '87 had panniers locked on bike w/out keys - was able to get from Bob's BMW

Re: ignition - may be good idea to buy a new switch from Motobins UK as with age the contacts can get dirty and problematic but hopefully finding an ignition key is a good first step.

Good Luck!

Also, depending on the version of BMW bags you have, you may be able to key them the same as your ignition/steering lock/fuel cap/seat lock. If your bags are the same age as the bike, you should be able to do this as they use a BMW key. The earlier K luggage used a different type of key. The re-keying of the luggage is a piece of cake if you decide to do it. Just come back to this forum for the info. Good luck getting the ignition key sorted out. Ride easy,
gp

Do not get a different ignition switch. The contact section is separate from the lock section. That still wouldn't allow you to get into the gas cap.

Must have been an interesting test ride when you bought the bike.

Contact your local dealer to see if they can help. If not, remove ignition switch and take it to a locksmith. Have a couple of keys made. I hope you got a heck of a discount on the bike for no key, no start, and no test ride!

Second and third generation luggage can easily be rekeyed to the ignition key if it wasn't already done at original sale or by a previous owner.
