2024 R1250RT Phone Compartment

I have a new RT and was wondering if the covered phone compartment has any anti vibration properties?

I ruined the camera on my previous Iphone with my '04 RT, when I solidly mounted it to the handlebars.

I like the Inductive Charging feature of the new bike so just wanted to ask what other users have found.

Thank very much,

No not really... I decided to go with the quad lock wireless charger and vibration dampener they have. The phone compartment is so tight it's tough to get any small phone w/case so just more awkward than anything and I like seeing the phone anyway for the hiway radar app.

After Apple came out with an advisory about using iPhones on motorcycles I got in touch with BMW about whether the advisory applied to the RT phone cubby. They said they had no issues with vibration in the cubby and the advisory didn't apply to it. Don't know if that was due to the cubby's materials or something else. YMMV.

Thanks for the feedback. I also use a Quad Lock with the vibration damper (off the handlebars), but was wondering for those times when I'm out riding and run into some rain, and want to put the phone in the compartment.

So once again, BMW declares innocence and/or ignorance.
Every motor officer around here (that I've seen) has his phone on a Quad-Lock; that may be be partly for "instant" communications and partly for the GPS features so they can get to a particular location more directly.
I haven't asked about what they do with it when it rains, but they have pockets.

Get a waterproof case. I have one for mine, good to 15'.

I suspect that there is nobody employed by BMW Motorrad USA who knows one darn thing about the sensitivity of Apple phone cameras to vibration. I wouldn't trust that answer at all - it just isn't in their customer services wheelhouse. The old "we never heard of that problem" answer.

Evidence of just how little BMW knows or cares about cell phones is when they spec updated model bikes that don't even fit most larger cell phones, or medium sized ones in cases. The cell phone compartment on my 2020 model is also right next to the engine, so too hot for a phone. Or, what they have done with the CA app.

Having damaged the image stabilizer of my prior phone with a vibration dampened bar mount (on a smooth K1600 no less), and the challenges i had with the phone overheating in our southern climate, my phone now rides in my jacket. I personally would only put a phone lacking an image stabilizer on the bars.

Without a heavy duty cellphone, it’s cellphone in a holder/pocket for me. Cellphones are computers that just happen to make phone calls. Computers are fragile. The roads around here are almost “corduroy” after the winter we have had. Can’t picture of a handlebar mount helping a cellphone survive, notice mirror vibration?
IMO it can be done but I like my phone. It was expensive. Just as soon not beat the 💩 out of it. 😊
ICE (in case of emergency) I want the phone with me.

While I'm no fan of BMW's customer support, to be fair to them, they didn't say they never heard about it - they said they were aware of the advisory from Apple and had been in touch with Apple about the issue. At that point, they had no reports of owner's having camera failures using the cubby.

This seems to be working well on my RT. No issues with the camera so far. Thanks for the feedback. IMG_2732.jpg

my 2022 Triple Black RT has 123k with my Google phone in the phone cubby for almost all of those miles. NO issues what so ever. It charges fine and doesn't get hot and everything on the phone works fine.
I seem to recall the cubby has a vent fan to prevent overheating.

I and my brother use Samsung Androids. He's used his on the 12GT with no issues but recently went with a dual vibration dampener that's sturdier than the one he's used for years..

I resisted using the phone to play music but just a month ago we bought Cardo edges and my mp3 players are too legacy to work properly with the new edge which is using 5.3 bluetooth. I'd prefer to keep the phone in my pocket as I've always done with the mp3 player in the glovebox cubby with supplied power but I'll not ride without music so the phone now sits in a dual vibration dampener handlebar mount.

Now that power source is used to power the phone instead of an mp3. I don't expect any issues with the Androids but time will tell.
