2024 National Rally: REDMOND Oregon

Makes me glad I'm not just starting out in this world. I used to say to myself that I'd pick up cans on the side of the road before I'd live in a place like CA and I meant it. Of course now the laugh is on me because CA is moving north as well as ever where else it seems. Wonder how the ones that moved to Texas are liking it now. lol..lol.. I mean you got to see the humor.:blah

No Kidding !! Funny but the movers and shakers in Charlotte have always said "we do not want to be another Atlanta" and then did everything they could do become just like Atlanta. I almost moved to California in the 1980's .... I guess the good lord was looking out for me! :thumb

I love it when people hate on my home. :bluduh

Sorry if I sounded like I was "hating on Calif." I realize a lot of folks love it ... it is just not for me. Heck I have good friends who like in Minneapolis and that too is not for me with bitter cold winters but they wouldn't live anywhere else. That is what is so great about this country ... you can pretty much live in a place that works for you.

It's a respect thing. You won't find me slagging on other states and would appreciate it if others would use the same courtesy.

I've been to 49 states and rode from my house to 48 of them. They all have something wonderful about them. Seriously. Every state in this nation has some amazing aspect and they are, in the main, filled with wonderful people that have welcomed me to their world when I've visited.

But comments here seem to overlook that. It's tiresome and disrespectful and I'm really over it. The "commiefornia", "Kalifornia" and similar are not conducive to respectful conversations in the least, but they seem to be fine with the mods.

It's disappointing.

Did I miss something? The title of the thread is "2024 National Rally: Redmond Oregon". :scratch

Well then I suspect you are not referring to my comments. Thanks for that. I was born and raised in New Jersey and thankfully moved to Charlotte in '96. Jersey gets a lot of negative comments (many valid) but there are some really nice places in NJ. However, most from NJ have pretty think skin and let most comments roll off our back. California is no different and like NJ many would live no where else and every state has something positive to add to the mix of state. I too have traveled to all the lower 48 and find something positive in each state but many I would not what to reside in.

I would just let the comments pass and hopefully we can get back to the REAL topic of this thread ... the 2024 Rally! :clap

My concern with Redmond is complicated. I dislike what I have been able to find with hotel pricing (gouging) and availability, so decided - no problem - we will just camp. Then I looked at this year's current weather in early June and find overnight lows mostly in the low 40s and upper thirties, with one night forecast to be below freezing at 31F. I have been to both prior Redmond rallies and don't recall any temperature issues camping - but - but - those were both in July. Be prepared campers. Be prepared!

Yes ... I have found the same regarding lodging. Have even started another thread specific about lodging. It appears rates are well north of $200 a night unless you go to a lower level hotel such as EconoLodge, Super 8, Red Roof, etc. I have always preferred Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield Inn, SpringHill Suites, etc. Waiting for Best Western to open up reservations for the Rally timeframe but some checking makes me think it will be no better than what I have seen. For now I have booked in Prineville (about 20 min. east) for a pretty good rate.

Funny how our perspectives mirror where we live. When I see overnight lows in the upper thirties I think Great Sleeping weather!

Pete in northern Vermont

Ha! I don't camp but if I did ... those temps would sound perfect for me too!

Great sleeping temperatures. :thumb

Helps keep pests like mosquitoes at bay as well.

... I recall my comments from a few posts before selection; If it's in the PNW.. I "hope" it's in July.

There will be stories, long told, on what it was like getting to, or from Oregon back in 24'.

Isn't that just all part of the adventure? :nod

Best Western is showing $194 two weeks before the rally. I gave us hoping for a decent rate there during the rally.
I appreciated the good rate Best Western had at Springfield. We paid $59 plus tax 2 nights and $63 two nights.
The Springfield Best Western Rally was almost as good as the main rally :)

Yup ... exactly what I am seeing. All rates I see are $200 or more unless you go to a lesser grade hotel ... EconoLodge, Super 8, etc.

Springfield was great! Although my buddies had bed bugs on the 2nd night. They were discovered by the hotel cleaners and they gave them one night free but what a pain!

With hosting GEARS were were typically at the rally 6 nights - Monday through Saturday nights. Without GEARS we have still been 4 nights at the rally, Wednesday through Saturday. With a quoted $200+ room rate stretching easily to $225 or $250 or more with taxes and fees that becomes somewhere near or north of $1,000 just for lodging. I think that is a bit rich for a lot of members. It will be cheaper to buy a new Zero-Degree sleeping bag and endure the sub freezing camping temperatures.

You got to remember Redmond is on what's called the high plateau at an elevation of 3100' east of the mountains so she gets nippy at times but humidity is low.
