Just what I always wanted to do....NOT!!! Stand out there in a howling wind and rain! And the giant pendulum called government swings once again.
So, getting back to the rally…. Redmond’s fairgrounds has a lot of grassy expanse for camping, but I booked a room today just because. It’s hard to find anything in Redmond or most of central Oregon for under $200/night during summer tourist season! But at least the online booking window is open for most motels.
Last week I picked up at the Chief Joseph Rally very useful motorcycle road map printed by a company called “Come Ride With Us” motorcycle maps. These are printed by https://comeridewithus.net/ and they have maps available for Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Printing/hosting costs for hand-out or downloadable maps are apparently supported by advertising for food and lodging. Paved roads are shown in red, unpaved in blue, all on a white background, and the map was quite useful in planning local rides.
Redmond is kind of on the border between their SW Oregon and NW Oregon maps but is shown on both. It would be great if both NW and SW maps were in the rally packet or available for pickup at the information booth (hint, hint).
Just sayin…
Best,
DeVern

Pretty much what I found as well. And with the comments here from locals about how busy Bend was I opted to book in Prineville which is about 20 miles east and a straight shot. Country Inns & Suites for about $147 / night. It had very good reviews and when I called Baily at the front desk was super helpful and got me 10% AAA discount. There is gas and convenience store next door and a couple restaurants walking distance. It checked all the boxes in for me. Hope to see others there!

Oh thank goodness! I found the Ignore feature!
OK, this is the latest from the Oregon governor on the self serve gas question.
