Hi Everyone,
I am looking at buying from original owner 2005 K1200S with only 2500 miles. All updates have been done and has new tires. Is there any items or problematic areas I should be aware of or look for on this model?

Thanks in advance

The 2005 has a fuel strip instead of a float for the fuel gauge.
A few of the early years K1200S had transmission problems.
I only know one guy who actually had the problem.

Welcome to the Forum!

The most noted problematic area for that bike is the inability to keep it below triple digits. This can inhibit the ability to maintain a valid driver’s license. :deal Enjoy!

Too true. :laugh

And yes, to the OP - welcome!

Questions:
1 - Did these also require an upgrade to the cam chain tensioner and the installation of the "jump guard"? (Maybe I have the various models mixed up.)
2 - Did these have the issue with the con rod bolts not being properly torqued or Lock-Tighted?

Just Googled "K1200S recalls" and got several links back - 2005 issues include the rear wheel hub flange, front suspension corrosion, fuel line quick disconnects, fuel pump flange, brake hydraulics and ABS.

Excepting "brake hydraulics" and ABS, all replaced under various recalls.

As long as mblutche can actually verify that...

Easy to check visually. The final drive flange is visible and the cam chain jump guard is accessible through a port in the crankcase. The cam chain tensioner looks like a top hat on the right side of the motor. And, were any not done, he could bring the bike to a dealer and the upgrades, except the tensioner, would be done at no charge.

The bike has servo brakes so the first thing that should be done is a thorough flushing of the brake fluid. I guess the same goes for every other fluid in the bike as well !
