1998 R1100 RS Pillion Seat Will Not Latch

To All:
My rear seat was always difficult to get to "click" into the latch, and it has become impossible to properly secure. I've tried moving and manipulating the tang on the seat and even tried the "washer" trick to see if that would work (more info about that here:
). No dice. The lock appears to be working normally and the tang will latch to it when separated from the seat cushion. The only thing I can think of is that the plastic base of the seat may have deformed over time, but I don't want to start throwing parts at it.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

The lock itself may need to be realigned.
Try putting some Dykem, or maybe just plain magic marker ink, on the latch - and/or the hook of the lock - to see where it scrapes the catch.... but the scratches already there should be a major clue.
