1994 r1100rs lowering foot pegs

I want to lower the foot pegs on my bike. The more I research I do the more confuse I get.. Do I need to get a new shifter? Which kit works best? Anybody who has done this I would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance. Ron

Glenn thank you for the reply. Did have to change the foot shifter?

Sort of: on the RT the shifter can be adjusted between high and low positions. I'm not familiar with the RS, but the parts fiche for the shift lever doesn't appear to show a way to make a similar adjustment...I'm sure an RS owner can chime in here.

I should note that the pegs do scrape on occasion when I'm feeling particularly spunky, but at 65 YO I find this less and less of a problem...

If you want the footpegs a *lot* lower...

...you can replace the RS footplates with those from a GS. Doing this requires more than wrench-twisting: some minor modification is needed to both the center and sidestands, and one must use the GS brake pedal. I can't remember if the GS shift lever is necessary; maybe the stock lever still worked.

This dropped the pegs about 4" and along with bar risers, generated a riding position about half-way between RS and RT. I found it blissfully comfortable, and rode the bike for twelve years. I never scraped the pegs, but did put the balls of my feet on the pegs when I was leaned over.

For me, it was worth the trouble; I wouldn't have kept the bike so long otherwise.
