1977 rs

I bought a 1977 R100RS today, one owner, 36,000 miles, I'm just a little bit excited to start having fun with this one. It needs a bit of tlc but not too much. More pics later

I'm pretty thrilled, after riding BMW's for almost 40 years, starting with a R69S, and lusting and drooling over the early RS Airheads I saw this on craigslist and was the first to call and said "I'll take it", price was right too. She even has the original sales receipt from when they bought it new. I've had 7 or so Airheads so I kind of know how to keep them on the road. This will be a perfect compliment to the Oilhead GSA in the garage I rehabbed over the winter.https://forums.bmwmoa.org/images/smilies/dance.gif

This one has a production date of 12 1976. I think that makes it one of the real early ones?

Phil Hawksley's site shows that the '77 RS production started in March 1976 and about 1500 were produced before December (Europe and US). Highest US-bound '77 RS was 6180317 built August 1977.

Maybe I read Phil's data incorrectly, but 6180317 was the last one built in November 1976. The last August 1977 VIN is 6182781. Maybe I don't understand his table, but I think these are the correct VIN's. BTW, mine is 6180422 made in December 1976.

The VIN on my new '77 RS is 6180318, one site showed it as a December build date. Not that it matters too much I'm just happy to have it. Six inches of snow here last night so garage time is easy to come by.

Maybe I read Phil's data incorrectly, but 6180317 was the last one built in November 1976. The last August 1977 VIN is 6182781. Maybe I don't understand his table, but I think these are the correct VIN's. BTW, mine is 6180422 made in December 1976.

You're totally right. Not sure how I effed that up...reading up/down/sideways must have gotten me all confuzzled!!
