1973 R75/5 centerstand question

Does anyone know if the centerstand itself pivots on the centerstand bolt bushings or if the bushings should be a crush fit into the centerstand, to pivot on the centerstand bolts? BWM shop manual and Clymer's don't say....

Centerstand

The centerstand pivots on the bushings. If you recently purchased a new stand you might note that the holes are a bit off and may require some filing to get it all together.

Thanks, and yes, looks like the holes need dressing as the bushings will not seat. Do you think I should "dress" the holes until the bushings spin inside them or just enough to get the bushings to seat and let wear and use loosen them up?

I'd dress the holes so that the stand will just turn easily. Then grease it well on assembly.
You'll also find that the frame tabs are likely to be bent This will require some "custom fitting" to make the stand easy to deploy.

It was time. Tip; Don't even think about de-installing/installing springs without the centerstand in the down and fully forward position.
Interesting that the Bob's replacement bolts - while surely purpose chosen and correct - have 13mm heads and not 17mm. Threads and length are right and come with red loctite looking stuff on them.

Image deleted to save space..

Whoa! Looks like you'll need some custom welding to put some meat back on the bottom there too. :whistle

Just a note of clarification. The bolts with the 13mm heads are the new BMW OEM bolts and Not just replacement bolts from Bob's. If you get a part ,from Bob's it will always be an OEM part unless stated otherwise. Not always true from other suppliers.
